Abdul Kalam has been a great inspiration for most of the students. Most of the students like him including me. Let's take everything positive no matter if one fail in doing something. Try doing things without thinking about the results. Learning is essential for living and try to use learnt things practically. Here is a topic "Compound Words". Learn how to use it.
Compound words are those which has two different words with two different meaning and they are fused together to form a single word. It's confusing right? Most of the definition seems to be confused. Once we look a definition with an example, we can easily able to grasp the concept. Here i provided you with an example to make you clear about the definition.
1.Ear + ring ---> Earring.
Here Ear means - an external organ in human body through which one can hear sounds.
Ring means - a circular precious metal worn on the finger.
Earring - a piece of jewelry worn on the ear.
Here the two words Ear and Ring gives two different meanings.
When the two words are combined to form a new word that is Earring is obtained with an entirely different meaning. Hope all have got a clear idea. There are various types in compound words. Here we go,
Types of Compound Words:
1. Closed Compounds - the words are combined together without any gap.
Eg: In + side ----> Inside.
Key + board ----> Keyboard.
2. Open Compounds - the words are combined together but a space remains between them.
Eg: Ice + cream ----> Ice cream.
Web + page -----> Web page.
3. Hyphenated Compounds - the words are combined by a hyphen(-) to get a new word.
Eg: Short + term ----> Short-term.
Mother + in + law ----> Mother-in-law.
